We round out Year Two of our 50th Anniversary Vampirella series with the prologue to "Interstellar," the chronicle of Vampirella's journey back to her home planet of Drakulon. Lilith has vanished under mysterious circumstances leaving Vampirella-- who's never had the best relationship with her mom-- torn between accepting Lilith's disappearance or going to her rescue, which would require her finding a way back to her home world. Caving in to the inevitable, Vampirella has only one place she can begin her journey -- the human she rescued from Drakulon all those years ago and re-create the accident that brought him there.

Vampirella #17 "1969" As Vampirella searches for a way to return to Drakulon in order to save her mother, she reflects on her first days on Earth as a newly arrived extraterrestrial lost in a bustling New York City, where she becomes the target of predators both human and supernatural, and finds her first friend-- a mysterious young woman who can transform herself into a Panther.

Having been tried in absentia by the Vampiri state, Vampirella's mother Lilith's conviction on sedition charges is a done deal by the time she finally arrives on her home world. Can Vampi allow her mother's execution, or will she again risk banishment from her home world by coming to Lilith's rescue?

"Interstellar" concludes with Vampirella having to once again choose between saving her people, a world dying of blood drought, and protecting her adopted home world of Earth. The Vampiri have developed technology enabling them to breach the great divide between worlds, giving the dying Vampiri access to an endless supply of human "cattle." But which side will Vampi choose?

It's not over!  "Interstellar" became so big a story, we needed more issues to contain it!  In this, the penultimate chapter, the secret cause of Drakulon's long-ago ruin is at last revealed, so if you think you know what led that world to become an inhospitable desert, think again.  Of course, this is all assuming you're not still in shock after the "oh my god!!!!" ending of last ish!
