Young gamer Shuutarou is among the lucky few chosen to playtest Eternity, the latest VRMMORPG, and he wastes no time in activating his unique dungeon creation skill...at the exact moment when the game glitches out! Now he and his fellow playtesters are trapped, and their very lives are at stake. Shuutarou happens to end up in the one area that has yet to be patched into the game: the final-boss lair where the six Evil Overlords lurk. They promptly declare him their master-and with Eternity's strongest baddies on his team, Shuutarou is up for any adventures this new life will throw at him!

Shuutarou and his Evil Overlord pals made it out of Ross Maora Castle, but a spirit barrier is keeping them and the rest of Eternity's players from entering a certain area. In order to progress further in this game world, Shuutarou decides to change character classes...from a swordfighter to a summoner! This way, he can call upon his six Evil Overlords whenever he wants. But being a summoner comes with its own caveats: He can bring only one overlord with him at a time?!

With the invasion quelled, Barbara and the members of Party 21 add two new recruits-Rao and Reilan-to form Party 7, which sets out for the next town. Meanwhile, Wataru's group has made it all the way to the front line at Fort Sandras, where they join forces with the three top progression guilds. There, Misaki meets a player who tells her where to find the person who saved her life! As the Mother AI's goals start coming to light, will Shuutarou, Wataru, and Misaki's stories finally converge?!

Upon achieving the highest-tier summoner class, Shuutarou reunites with Crest's Party 7, who welcomes him back with open arms and a bit of shock. Just as the party prepares to take on quests and join the front lines, something is amiss in Calloah Castle Town. A man named the Liberator claims that players can safely log out from the death game that is Eternity, and that he's even done it himself! This revelation astonishes the players who have had enough of this world...and that's when the Liberator accuses Crest of being responsible for the ensuing chaos!

Riding the high from their latest level-up, the front-line fighters continue to Fort Sandras…only to find a huge horde of powerful monsters waiting for them! Reinforcements from Aegis and Crest join the fight, but in the face of such overwhelming numbers, even the top guilds begin to crumble. Just as Misaki loses heart watching one comrade after another cut down around her, Theodore and Vampy suddenly arrive on Shuutarou's orders and turn the tide of the battle. However, something about Shuutarou's absence has Misaki feeling uneasy. His evil overlords have started showing themselves to players everywhere for the first time, but for what purpose? And where is their master?!
