    Oingo Boingo was an American new wave band, formed by songwriter Danny Elfman in 1979. As a rock band, Oingo Boingo started as a ska and punk-influenced new wave octet, achieving significant popularity in Southern California. During the mid-1980s, the band changed line-ups and adopted a more pop oriented style, until a significant genre change to alternative rock in 1994. At that point, the name was shortened to simply Boingo and the keyboardist and horn section were dropped. The band retired after a farewell concert on Halloween 1995.

    The band was formed in 1985 by vocalist King Diamond, guitarist Michael Denner, and bassist Timi Hansen. The three had recently departed from the group Mercyful Fate, which fell apart due to musical differences between King Diamond and guitarist Hank Shermann.  Choosing the name "King Diamond" he quickly rounded out the line-up of the King Diamond band. King Diamond has influenced groups such as Metallica, Slayer and Lamb of God to name a few.

    Run-DMC, who were East Coast contemporaries with the Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, and Public Enemy put rap music on the map in a larger, commercial way after the genre was founded in the parks of New York City and brought to life by artists like Grand Master Flash, KRS-ONE, Kool Herc and Rakim. Run-DMC released their debut self-titled LP in 1984 and then became the first hop-hop act to achieve a gold record. Their sophomore release, King of Rock, was quickly certified Platinum, making Run-DMC the first to achieve that monumental feat. In more firsts, the group was the first hip-hop act to have its music played on MTV. Their aesthetic was almost as famous as their rhymes. And now the Run-DMC comic book that will sell off the shelves like there albums do so make sure to order this book!

  24. Rock & Roll Biographies Suicidal Tendencies Infectious Groov

    Enjoy this cool flip book featuring two iconic California bands formed by the legendary Mike Muir! Suicidal Tendencies was formed in 1980 as a punk band in Venice, California. Originally only intended as a "party band," Suicidal Tendencies grew in notoriety. Suicidal Tendencies had a rough start, including being voted "Worst Band/Biggest Assholes" in 1982 but the following year were voted "Best New Band." In 2000 Mike Muir eventually became interested in the funk music that Robert Trujillo had brought to the table. As a result, the two formed a funk metal side project in the vein of early Red Hot Chili Peppers called Infectious Grooves. Recruiting drummer Stephen Perkins and guitarist Adam Slagel, this helped expand Suicidal Tendencies' fan base into a wider audience that included members of the alternative rock community.
