Best friends Tokio and Azuma do everything together, even if most of the time it feels like Tokio is just stumbling along in Azuma's cooler, more talented footsteps. But when they're attacked one night by a superhuman mutant called a choujin, Tokio finally has a chance to shine-by turning into a choujin himself! For older teen audiences.

Tokio and his new choujin buddy Ely are now training to become superpowered protectors of the prefecture. But in addition to having to cram their noggins full of choujin rules and regulations, they have to deal with fledgling abilities that won't always do what they're supposed to...in ways both embarrassing and dangerous! While Tokio and Ely work hard to become choujin protectors, Azuma is languishing in regular school as a normal student. It's not like he resents Tokio for getting to be a hero while he's stuck being a kid; it's just that Azuma really wants to be able to do more to help! He wants it more than anything...

Azuma has always felt driven to help others, and his need to become a choujin was an extension of that desire. But when he finally turned, it wasn't the victory he dreamed of. Now, rather than fighting side by side with Tokio, he's trying to kill him! Forget repairing their friendship-can Tokio escape their reunion with his life?

Tokio, Ely, and Azuma might be on a tropical island, but it's about as far from a vacation as you can get. They're there to undergo all kinds of intense training from the keepers of Yamato Mori in order to improve their choujin skills. Before they can make much headway, renegade choujin crash their training, trying to kidnap one of the three for their mysterious boss! While their teachers bear the brunt of the attack, can Tokio and his friends protect themselves when they can't even control their powers yet?

After being kidnapped from training camp, Tokio and his friends end up at the Tower of Mourning, home of a creepy choujin named Zora. It turns out she's actually Sora Siruha, the founder of Yamato Mori, and now she wants Tokio's help in fighting the dark future her (possibly false) prophetic visions have foretold. It's all very weird and confusing, and Tokio needs some time before committing his body to her questionable cause. But enormous unhinged monster choujin aren't known for their patience! Can his friends help him escape, or will he be conscripted into Zora's growing choujin army?

Tokio is back from his training just in time to help Ely and Azuma deal with some troublesome choujin. But tearful reunions will have to wait as Yamato Mori dedicates all its resources to preparing for an all-out war against Zora and her forces. As Tokio and his friends get caught up in strategy sessions and reconnaissance missions, they are viscerally reminded that there's one experience all choujin have in common-pain.

Operation Old Market, the drug bust Tokio and his friends are attempting to pull off on a tight deadline, is going just as badly as everyone at Yamato Mori expected. In the midst of a high-speed foot chase that could be their big break, Tokio hears a sudden choujin call. He knows he doesn't have time to be distracted, but can he afford to ignore this strange clarion?

Tokio's recent side quest to rescue Palma Shishinegura turns out to have been worth the effort when she's able to help them with a little problem. Yamato Mori needs to interrogate the drug dealer who's been pushing Zola's opium in Old Market, but he was hacked to pieces right in front of them! What's a little death when a Zombie Maker owes you a favor?

After years of clashing with Zora and her forces, Yamato Mori finally has a chance to defeat their former leader. But this final showdown will be on Zora's home turf, and everyone knows the cost of storming her tower will be high. Will the battle be the perfect chance for Tokio and his friends to prove themselves to their mentors, or is this finally the fight they won't walk away from? For older teen audiences.
