Lazarus Order (2026)

In a medieval world where illness can lead to horrific and monstrous transformation, the Lazarus Order is mankind's final bastion, preventing uncontrollable chaos. Devout plague doctors have sacrificed their freedom in an oath to God, in exchange for supernatural abilities. However, their powers come at a great cost—the more they use them, the more it consumes them until they fade to nothing. Despite this sacrifice, they live in servitude and dedication to protecting humanity from vampires, werewolves, Rattusvir (Rat-man disease), the undead, and other variants of “The First Sickness.” Doctor Damien, a meek, middle-aged stickler for protocol, is sent to team up with Edward Talis, an older, opportunistic, charming veteran doctor. They respond to what seems to be a routine call to subdue and cure a Rattusvir, only to discover an omen that “The First Sickness” has set events in motion to destroy the Lazarus Order once and for all. Will they unravel its machinations before their oaths consume them? Or will they continue down their path towards righteous self-destruction, unaware of what foul monsters scheme beneath their feet?

With a recent failure looming over him, Doctor Damien grows dissatisfied with his meager contributions to curing the sick. With an unknown amount of time before he is consumed by his own flames, he searches for the answer that will position him to lead the Order to lasting change. Meanwhile, we meet a skittish and peculiar boy: Uriel Bookman, the son of the late and highly respected Doctor Alexander. He struggles to mourn the loss of his father and finds himself disconnected from the others in the Order. He must navigate dealings with monsters and the resident alchemist, Tink, to achieve a secretive, time sensitive, and morbid goal. Does Uriel truly have the Order’s best interests in mind?

Ed takes Uriel outside of the Order for the first time in his life to respond to a feral vampire sighting and discover much more than the greenhorn lad is prepared for. Can Ed keep them both alive? Meanwhile at the Order…enter Archibald Jonathan Journey III, Professor of history, carrier of the werewolf curse, and…Damien’s friend? The dark burden the wolf-man carries is revealed along with Damien’s desire to help him. Then, a shocking event brings the order’s leaders together for the first time in a long time as they must discuss a powerful looming threat as the vampire faction seeks to make a deadly trade.
